The ILWU Local 500 (Longshore Union) has raised $15,400 for donations to health care workers in the Fraser Health area and $40,000 for the food bank since mid-April.  Business agent Rickey Baryer said longshoremen are sometimes sterotyped as “bad apples”, but noted the members raised this money for the community and hope other union will match their donations.

“The vast majority of the brothers and sisters at ILWU Local 500 are honest, hard working, family orientated individuals.  We understand that we are fortunate enough to still be working and be able to put food on the table for our families,” Baryer added.
